[Introduction] [Restore Setup Files from Disk 1] [Related Information]

Introduction

During the installation of PC Access® for Windows, PC Access displays the following message:
Confirm

You have not yet made a backup of your PCAWin setup files.

Do you want to make a backup now?

Click "No" if you want do it later. Click "Ignore" to turn this message off in the future.

[Yes]   [No]   [Ignore]   [Help]

If you clicked Yes, PC Access created a BACKUP directory on Disk 1. PC Access included these setup files in the BACKUP directory:
  • PCAWIN.LIC: PC Access for Windows License
  • PCAWIN.PBK: Phone Book file
  • PCAWIN.AGT: Agent file
  • PCAWIN.ABM
  • PCAW410.EKB or PCAW430.EKB: User Authorization file
  • PCAWIN.INI: files and the Modem settings

  • Note: PC Access may prompt you to back up your setup file(s) if any of the setup files change. Here is how it works, when you use LAUNCH.EXE to run PC Access it scans the setup files to see if they are newer than your latest backup files. LAUNCH.EXE determines your latest backup files by checking the time and date stamp on the SAVEDATE.DAT file in the PC Access executable directory (C:\PCAWIN). If the date and/or time on any of your setup files is newer that the date and/or time on the SAVEDATE.DAT file, PC Access may prompt you to backup your setup files.

If you clicked No or Ignore, PC Access did not back up these files to Disk 1.

If you need to reinstall PC Access and you backed up your PC Access setup files, you can restore your original setup files. See: Restore Setup Files from Disk 1 for more information.

Restore Setup Files from Disk 1

If you backed up your PC Access for Windows setup files to Disk 1, you can restore your set up files. You can do this in one of two ways:

Restore Setup Files using DOS

  1. Insert your PC Access for Windows Disk 1 into your computer's disk drive.
  2. Open a MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt window.
    • Windows 95/98: click Start | Programs | MS-DOS Prompt
    • Windows NT 4.0: click Start | Programs | Command Prompt
    • Windows ME: click Start | Programs | Accessories | MS-DOS Prompt
    • Windows 2000: click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
    • Windows XP: click Start | Programs or All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
  3. The following files may exist in the BACKUP directory on Disk 1:
PCAFLYER.EKB - PC Access Flyer user authorization
        PCAW430.EKB - PC Access 4.30 user authorization
        PCAW410.EKB - PC Access 4.10/4.20 user authorization
PCAWIN.ABM - PC Access Answer Back Message (ABM) file
PCAWIN.AGT - PC Access Agent file
PCAWIN.INI - PC Access settings file
PCAWIN.LIC - PC Access License file
PCAWIN.PBK - PC Access Phone Book file
SAVEDATE.DAT - Launch Backup time and date stamp file

    • Note: depending upon your version of PC Access, the PCAW430.EKB or PCAW410.EKB file may exist in the BACKUP directory on Disk 1. In addition, if your BACKUP directory contains the PCAFLYER.EKB file, you probably installed PC Access Flyer 1.02 into the PC Access for Windows executable directory. You also backed up this file to the BACKUP directory.
  4. To use one of your back up files, copy the file from the BACKUP directory to your PC Access for Windows executable directory. If you installed PC Access into its default directory, the executable directory is: C:\PCAWIN. Use the following command to copy file(s):
        COPY A:\BACKUP\<FILENAME.EXT> C:\PCAWIN /Y

Substitute <FILENAME.EXT> for the PC Access setup filename listed above. The /Y parameter tells DOS to overwrite the existing file with the new file you are copying to the PC Access executable directory.

Restore Setup Files using Windows

  1. Insert your PC Access for Windows Disk 1 into your computer's disk drive.
  2. Open Windows Explorer.
    • Windows 95/98: click Start | Programs | Windows Explorer
    • Windows NT 4.0: click Start | Programs | Windows NT Explorer
    • Windows ME: click Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer
    • Windows 2000: click Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer
    • Windows XP: click Start | Programs or All Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer
  3. The following files may exist in the BACKUP directory on Disk 1:
PCAFLYER.EKB - PC Access Flyer user authorization
        PCAW430.EKB - PC Access 4.30 user authorization
        PCAW410.EKB - PC Access 4.10/4.20 user authorization
PCAWIN.ABM - PC Access Answer Back Message (ABM) file
PCAWIN.AGT - PC Access Agent file
PCAWIN.INI - PC Access settings file
PCAWIN.LIC - PC Access License file
PCAWIN.PBK - PC Access Phone Book file
SAVEDATE.DAT - Launch Backup time and date stamp file

    • Note: depending upon your version of PC Access, the PCAW430.EKB or PCAW410.EKB file may exist in the BACKUP directory on Disk 1. In addition, if your BACKUP directory contains the PCAFLYER.EKB file, you probably installed PC Access Flyer 1.02 into the PC Access for Windows executable directory. You also backed up this file to the BACKUP directory.
  4. Access your A: (3.5") drive in Windows Explorer. In the left window pane click on the A:\BACKUP directory. Now you can view the PC Access setup files you previously backed up. To move a file from the BACKUP directory to your PC Access executable directory, click on the filename in the A:\BACKUP directory to highlight it. Press CTRL+C or click Edit | Copy in Windows Explorer. This will copy the file to the Windows Clipboard. If you need to copy more than one file from the A:\BACKUP directory, hold down the CTRL key and click on the filenames you want to copy.
  5. Click on your PC Access executable directory, usually C:\PCAWIN. You can find this folder on the left window pane in Windows Explorer. Right-click on the C:\PCAWIN folder and click Paste to copy the file in the previous step to the C:\PCAWIN folder.
