Information about pca-support
What is the PC Access Support Mailing List?
The PC Access Support Mailing List (pca-support@mfm.com ) is an Internet mailing list for everyone who provides technical support for PC Access for DOS and PC Access for Windows. This includes MFM personnel, technical support representatives from VISTAinfo and MLS/Board Offices, independent consultants who serve the real estate industry, and technically inclined end-users who provide informal peer support.
You will find the latest information on newly-discovered bugs and fixes, incompatibilities and workarounds, MFM technical support bulletins, program updates, and new or revised standard procedures. Say goodbye to confusion, frustration, and telephone tag! On pca-support you can learn from (and teach) your fellow support representatives.
You can send technical support questions to the list. Other PC Access support representative and/or MFM employees may answer your question. If you read a question from a fellow representative, feel free to reply if you know the answer.
Why a mailing list?
PC Access for DOS and PC Access for Windows are high tech communication programs that exercise a user's computer to a greater extent than most other applications. Therefore these programs are sensitive to details of the user's hardware and system software. Configuring a computer to run PC Access can sometimes be tricky, so it's essential that we pool our knowledge about solving support problems.
A mailing list is superior to telephone communication. When you send a message, you can include all relevant background information about a problem, and then return to other tasks. You don't have to wait for a particular person to become free to talk to you. Instead, you broadcast your problem to the entire support talent pool, and receive a detailed answer usually within minutes to hours. MFM personnel monitor the pca-support list during the business day, and check periodically during off hours, and we answer all questions as quickly as possible. Also, by monitoring pca-support, you will learn about problems other support representatives are solving, often before you see the same problems with your own users. (MFM encourages you to report any fixes or workarounds you have discovered to PC Access problems.)

Always sign your messages
When you send a message to pca-support@mfm.com, always state your name and employer or location at the bottom of the message body. This is particularly important if you are using someone else's email account. If you are replying to a someone else's message or following up on a continuing problem, please include enough context so the other members of the list can make sense of your message. Most modern e-mail programs provide a command for automatically quoting all or part of a message to which you are replying. If necessary, you can always paste in part of a previous message from the Windows clipboard.
Remember that your messages to pca-support will be visible to MFM, VISTAinfo, and MLS/Board Office employees across the United States and Canada. Your messages will also become part of the "permanent" set of digest files. Therefore you might not want to use pca-support to "vent" frustration or to vilify organizations or individuals. Objective criticism of PC Access features or MFM policy is, of course, welcome. We can only improve by learning where we need to improve.
